From public tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, to corporate tools like Microsoft’s CoPilot, to proprietary tools being developed inside companies and law firms, legal practitioners have a wide variety of new AI tools at their fingertips with a diverse array of potential use cases. The use of these tools, however, intersects with both lawyers’ ethical duties and their ever-expanding state, national, and international data privacy protection obligations.  This program will review these intersecting obligations and discuss how lawyers can safely navigate them.
