How did you get into this industry?

I began my legal career in Tennessee in 1998 and made partner by 2006—the same year I welcomed my first child. When my husband accepted an overseas position with the U.S. State Department, I faced a pivotal decision: continue the career I had built or embrace a new chapter abroad.

Ultimately, I chose to prioritize our growing family. On December 23, 2006, with two small children in tow, I boarded a plane to Poland. Though I stepped away from traditional legal practice, I never stopped thinking about how to return. In 2009, that planning eventually led me to India, where I restarted my career in a part-time role with an international legal outsourcing provider.

That role marked the beginning of my second legal career. Over time, I advanced within the company, ultimately becoming its Chief Operating Officer and Director of Legal Services. Today, I serve as Director of Structured Projects at Consilio, the world’s largest alternative legal service provider.

What were some pivotal moments in your career that helped shape your journey?

My career has been anything but linear, shaped by bold choices, unexpected opportunities and the support of incredible mentors, many of them women. Leaving my role as a law firm partner was a defining moment. Equally transformative was moving to India and stepping into the legal outsourcing industry without even sending out a resume.

Choosing to pursue happiness and success through a less traditional path allowed me to spend more time with my family—and, unexpectedly, opened the door to a new and exciting industry. What initially felt like a detour became a launchpad for growth, leadership, and innovation in legal services.

Choosing to trust myself—to embrace a new field rather than doubt my ability—opened the door to growth and long-term success.

Have you ever experienced moments where your gender played a role in your career?

Early in my career, I was struck by how powerful it was to see women working because they wanted to—not because they had to. That perspective shaped how I viewed my own career: as something I value and take pride in.

Over the years, I’ve also been fortunate to work with many strong female leaders who influenced my path.

What advice would you give to someone working in a predominantly male workplace?

Success isn’t just about having the right answers, it’s about showing up, leaning in, and being willing to grow. My advice is simple: lean into your job and your life. Take every opportunity to distinguish yourself. Work hard. Commit deeply.

Your career doesn’t have to follow a straight line to be meaningful or successful. And it may not look exactly like what you originally envisioned—and that’s okay.

What can companies do to encourage more women to pursue careers in technology?

The path forward is clear: make sure women know they are appreciated. Give them opportunities to apply for new roles, especially in leadership. Recognition and access are powerful tools for change.

The legal tech world is evolving rapidly, and there’s room for everyone—especially those willing to take a chance. If you're standing at the edge of something new, I encourage you to step forward. You never know where it might lead.
