Lindsay Cox Women in Tech Quote

Can you discuss elements of your career that helped get you to where you are today?

I have been fortunate to work with a variety of mentors and managers who empowered me to expand my skillset and diversify my experience. Those opportunities and challenges have helped fuel my professional growth.

Has there been any advice that has really stuck with you from your mentor-mentee experiences?

Never forget where you started – I began my career as a document reviewer. Since then, my role has changed and evolved but, I always try to take myself back to those formative experiences in mind. I have found that it’s important to be able to relate to and understand both the challenges and priorities at all levels for the entire team to be successful.

What is your advice for women in the workplace?

Women are more likely to give careful thought and analysis on a matter before speaking up. Be confident in what you know and don’t hesitate to voice your ideas in a male-dominated environment.  It’s ok if all ideas are not widely accepted.

What are your techniques for managing a work-life balance in an industry that can be inherently chaotic?

As a mom of two young children, I try to embrace the chaos. However, I also believe that a bit of self-care is essential. It can be hard to find time for yourself with competing priorities at work and at home. Spending time doing something you really enjoy will, in turn, help to create mental balance and sustainability in the long run.

What do you think that companies can do to push more women to join the tech industry?

Diversity and inclusion programs that promote awareness are vital. Women are drawn to organizations that prioritize these programs and are committed to creating a better work experience through action.
